Borno State has emerged as the second overall winner at the 2024 Abuja International Carnival, held from November 21 to 25.
The state's contingent, comprising 60 persons, participated in various events, including the opening ceremony, command performance, street march, fashion parade, and culinary contest.
Team Borno swept several awards, including the 2nd Overall Best Carnival King Award, 2nd Best in International Food Competition Award, and 2nd Best in Cultural Night Events Award.
They also won awards for the 2nd Best Carnival Queen, 2nd Best Carnival Costumes, 3rd Best Indigenous Nigeria Fashion Parade, and 3rd Best Carnival Float.
The vice president, Sen. Kashim Shettima, and the minister for culture and creative economy, Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa, commended the Borno team for their outstanding performance.
Sen. Shettima praised the Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for his efforts in reinvigorating the state's rich culture.
The commissioner for information and internal security, Prof. Usman Tar, noted that Borno's participation in national culture festivals demonstrates the state's resilience and determination to overcome its challenges.
He added that the state's 25-year development plan prioritizes cultural renaissance and social reorientation as a pillar of recovery and sustainable development.
Rivers State emerged as the overall winner of the carnival, while Yobe State came in third.
