A middle-aged man from Maiduguri, Borno State, has publicly apologized for brutally assaulting two minor girls over mango plucking.
The incident, which was captured on video and widely shared on social media, sparked outrage and calls for justice.
Lake Chad Times Newspaper had earlier reported how the man reportedly assaulted the minors, shedding light on the disturbing incident that has since sparked widespread condemnation.
In a video obtained on Friday afternoon, the perpetrator, who is said to be currently in the custody of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), expressed remorse for his actions.
'I regret my actions towards the minors, it is not my habit and I'm apologizing to the parents of the minors for what I did,' he said.
The man also appealed to the public to accept his apology, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
'I know I have made a mistake, and I promise to never repeat such an action in the future,' he added.
Despite the apology, community members are still demanding a suitable punishment for the perpetrator.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for greater protection and justice for victims of abuse.
