The Borno State Government has announced a temporary power outage in Maiduguri and surrounding areas due to routine maintenance of power lines and infrastructure.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the ministry of information and internal security, the power outage aims to ensure the stability and efficiency of the power grid.
Residents are advised to safeguard public electricity assets like transformers, poles, and cables from potential vandalism or trespassing.
The statement called on citizens to switch off domestic appliances to prevent damage from possible power surges or sparks during maintenance.
The government urges residents to cooperate and understand the necessity of this temporary outage, appreciating public cooperation for a smooth maintenance process.
This recent development comes amidst past challenges with power outages in Maiduguri, including a nine-month outage in 2021 caused by insurgent attacks on transmission towers, which disrupted businesses and daily life.
Many residents and business owners had to rely on alternative power sources like generators and solar systems.
The statement assured that the government is working to address these issues and restore power supply as soon as possible.
