Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have launched a deadly attack on a Nigerian Army base in Marte Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack, which occurred around 3:00AM on Monday, targeted the Forward Operation Base of the 153 Task Force Battalion.
According to reports, the insurgents overpowered the troops, leading to the death and capture of some soldiers.
Many soldiers reportedly fled the area, while others were captured by the insurgents.
Reports also indicated that the terrorists looted operational equipment and set the base ablaze, further exacerbating the destruction.
A security source confirmed that the insurgents set fire to military armored vehicles and carted away arms and ammunition from the base.
The Marte area has been a recurring flashpoint in the insurgency ravaging North Eastern Nigeria, located about 38 kilometers from Dikwa, the headquarters of Dikwa Local Government Area.
As of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian military has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
The attack highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the need for increased vigilance and effective counter-insurgency measures.
