Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, marked Nigeria's 2025 Democracy Day with an unconventional 5:00AM visit to hospitals in Maiduguri on Thursday.
He also provided cash support to patients before preparing to commission 20 new road projects and launch the construction of two major hospitals.
The governor began his day's activities with a surprise visit to the State Specialist Hospital at dawn, where he sympathized with patients and donated N50,000 in cash to each patient in the Gynaecology, antenatal, postnatal, and gynaecological emergency wards to help cover their medical expenses.
While interacting with the patients, the governor reiterated his administration's commitment to providing improved healthcare services for the people of Borno.
He later extended the same gesture at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), offering financial assistance to patients in various wards.
As part of the Democracy Day commemoration, the governor is also set to commission 20 road projects executed by his administration.
Furthermore, Governor Zulum will officially flag off the construction of two new hospitals in the Jere Local Government Area: the Borno Orthopaedic Hospital, to be cited in Goni Kachallari, and a new General Hospital in the Kaleri community.
An international conference centre in Maiduguri is also slated to commence.
These activities are part of a broader development agenda under the Zulum administration, which has reportedly undertaken more than 1,000 projects across critical sectors like education, healthcare, agriculture, and road networks during its six years in office.
