TY Buratai Football Academy has emerged as the champion of the seventh edition of the Zaman Lafiya Competition held in Maiduguri.
The academy defeated FC Crack in the final match on Sunday evening, which ended in a goalless draw but was decided in a penalty shootout with TY Buratai Academy winning 8-7.
The match, played at the El-Kanemi Warriors Sport Centre, witnessed a huge turnout of spectators and security agencies.
According to reports, FC Crack had a chance to take the lead in the penalty shootout but missed their first opportunity, allowing TY Buratai Academy to capitalize and secure the win.
Alhaji Ibrahim Buratai, President of FC Buratai Academy, congratulated his team on their victory and urged youths to promote love, togetherness, and peace.
He emphasized that the competition is a form of non-kinetic engagement for youths, aimed at promoting peace, discipline, and love, and discouraging social vices.
The competition is part of Ambassador General TY Buratai's (rtd) efforts to support youth development in Borno State.
As a former Chief of Army Staff, Buratai has been actively involved in youth engagement and development initiatives in the state, applying various ways, techniques, and modalities to engage youths and promote development.
Dignitaries at the event included Alhaji Babagana Kalli Kachallah Ozogler of the Nigerian Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed of OC Crack Borno State, Alhaji Ibrahim Mainu Mustapha, Chairman of Elkanemi Warriors Football Club, and Kabiru Dogo, Technical Director of Elkanemi Warriors Football Club.
The winners were awarded a trophy, and participating clubs received sets of jerseys.
Individuals who distinguished themselves during the competition also received gifts.
The event was seen as a successful initiative in promoting peace and development among youths in Borno State.
