The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed relief materials to 1,000 households affected by the recent insurgency attack on Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.
The attack, which occurred on Friday night, September 5, saw terrorists storm the community, first engaging the military before targeting civilians.
Several people were killed while many others sustained injuries.
The relief distribution was carried out on Friday by the NEDC Borno State Office, led by the State Coordinator, Engr. Mohammed Umar.
Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director/CEO, Mohammed G. Alkali, and the Commission’s management, Engr. Umar commiserated with the people of Darajamal, praying for the repose of the departed souls and speedy recovery of the injured.
He noted that the intervention reflects the Commission’s responsibility to support communities devastated by insurgency across the North East.
Also addressing the gathering, the Head of Branch Operations, NEDC, Aishatu Mohammed Hassan, stressed the Commission’s commitment to providing interventions in times of crisis.
She highlighted that the NEDC’s master plan is designed not only to rebuild but also to transform the region, fostering socioeconomic development in affected communities.
The Chairman of Bama Local Government Area, Alhaji Ali Guja, alongside community leaders, expressed appreciation to the NEDC for the swift response, pledging to ensure the relief items are put to proper use.
The distributed supplies included both food and non-food items such as bags of rice, cartons of vegetable oil, pasta, blankets, men’s clothing, women’s wrappers, and rubber mats.
