Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has assured residents of Banki that his administration will implement robust security measures to protect the border town from further attacks by Boko Haram insurgents.
The governor made this assurance during a working visit to the town on Saturday.
This assurance comes after the town was recently attacked by Boko Haram insurgents.
He commended the people of Banki for their courage and resilience in the face of a recent attack, urging them not to be disheartened.
'I purposely came to Banki to salute your courage; your act of bravery is really encouraging.
'We should not allow a few bad elements to displace this town whose businesses and economic activities have been thriving,' he said.
The governor assured the people that the insurgents will not succeed and that his administration will strengthen the security of the border town.
He also promised to support youth volunteers, hunters, and vigilantes to further fortify the area.
In addition to the security measures, Gov. Zulum announced plans to resettle three communities, Kumshe, Tarmu’a, and Bula Yobe in Bama local government area, which have been displaced by the insurgency.
'Kumshe, Tarmu’a and Bula Yobe will be resettled. The people deserve a dignified life and we are committed to delivering it,' he said.
The governor also confirmed that the rehabilitation of the Banki road has commenced, with 30 trucks already deployed to repair the dilapidated route.
He urged the people, particularly the youths, to participate in the ongoing voter registration exercise for the betterment of the society.
In a separate engagement, Gov. Zulum addressed traders at the Banki Market, urging them to be vigilant and cooperate with security agencies to ensure sustainable peace in the area.
