The Borno State Police Command has stopped an attempted attack by suspected insurgents in Malari, a community in Konduga Local Government Area.
In a statement on Monday by the command's spokesman, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the incident happened on Sunday around 12:00 p.m. when operatives at the Malari Forward Operating Base sighted about fifteen armed men riding motorcycles toward the community.
The officers engaged the suspects immediately, leading to an exchange of gunfire.
A fifteen-year-old male resident was shot during the encounter and was taken to the General Hospital Maiduguri for treatment.
Police also confirmed that three adult male residents, aged thirty-five, forty-five, and fifty, were reported missing after the incident.
ASP Daso said a joint team of the police, the military, and members of the CJTF and Hunters has started a search and rescue operation to locate the missing persons and secure the area.
The police said normalcy has been restored in Malari as the search operation continues.
Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid said the command remains committed to the safety of residents across the state.
He said the police will continue to work with other security agencies and local communities to strengthen intelligence gathering and respond quickly to threats.
The command urged residents to stay calm, stay alert, and provide credible information to security agencies when necessary.
