Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum on Tuesday inaugurated the permanent site of Government Day Secondary School Wandali in Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area, ending 30 years of learning on a temporary site.

The new school is expected to improve access to education for children, especially girls, who were affected by poor learning conditions.

The 20-classroom facility includes a computer laboratory equipped with digital tools to support basic technology and vocational skills.

Zulum said the project reflects his administration’s focus on inclusive education for children from rural and low-income families.

He said improved infrastructure would encourage parents, particularly women, to enroll and retain their children in school.

‘The construction of the permanent site of Government Day Secondary School Wandali fulfils our promise to provide access to education for communities across the state,’ Gov. Zulum said.

He said the government would ensure the provision of facilities required for effective teaching and learning.

The commissioner of education science, technology and innovation, Lawan Abba Wakilbe, said the school had operated from temporary accommodation since 1996.

He said the new classrooms and laboratories would create a better learning environment for students and improved working conditions for teachers, including women.

While in Kwaya Kusar, the governor inspected General Hospital Kwaya Kusar and promised to rehabilitate the facility and restore electricity supply.

The planned intervention is expected to improve access to healthcare for women, children, and elderly residents in the area.

Zulum also praised a medical officer at the hospital for his dedication and service to the community.

Earlier in Bayo, the governor inspected the newly inaugurated Bilingual Boarding School in Briyel, which currently has 430 orphaned pupils enrolled.

The school provides education, shelter, and care for vulnerable children affected by conflict and displacement.

The governor also inspected General Hospital Briyel and assured staff that the issue of power supply would be addressed.
