Borno State First Lady, Dr. Falmata Babagana Umara Zulum, has called on residents of Maiduguri and surrounding communities to take immediate precautions following reports of cholera cases in some areas.
In a statement released by her Press Unit, Dr. Falmata expressed concern over the outbreak and stressed that simple hygiene measures can stop the spread.
She urged residents to drink only clean, safe water, wash hands regularly with soap, keep surroundings clean, and handle food properly.
The First Lady also advised anyone experiencing severe diarrhea, vomiting, dehydration, or other cholera symptoms to go to the nearest healthcare facility without delay.
She extended condolences to families who lost loved ones to the disease and prayed for Almighty Allah to grant them strength.
Dr. Falmata wished those currently receiving treatment a speedy recovery.
'With collective effort, cooperation, and strict adherence to preventive measures, the spread of cholera can be effectively contained,' she said.
Cholera spreads through contaminated water and food, and cases often rise during the rainy season when flooding affects sanitation.
Health officials continue to sensitize communities in Maiduguri and its environs on prevention.
