Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have foiled multiple coordinated infiltration attempts by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The early morning attacks led to the killing of two ISWAP fighters.

According to a press release issued by Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate Muna Garage, Shuwari Village, and the Ajilari Cross axis between 12:20AM and 2:30AM in a bid to gain access into the Maiduguri metropolis.

'With early warning mechanisms emplaced, troops swiftly detected the advancing terrorists and engaged them from multiple axes with accurate firepower, decisively frustrating all attempts to infiltrate,' Capt. Goni said.

In separate incidents, troops also foiled additional infiltration attempts at Miringa and Dutsen Kura in Buratai.

The statement said during the pursuit of fleeing terrorists at Miringa, a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicle triggered an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

The military confirmed that no casualties were recorded among troops and that the situation remains stable.

Overwhelmed by the troops’ rapid tactical response, the insurgents were forced to abandon their mission and retreat in confusion across all axes.

'Troops are currently conducting clearance and exploitation operations to pursue the fleeing terrorists, consolidate operational gains, dominate the area, and prevent any further threat to nearby communities,' Capt. Goni added.

In the statement, OPHK said it remains committed to sustaining aggressive offensive operations to deny terrorists freedom of action and ensure the protection of lives and property across the North East.

The theatre command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

The latest operation adds to a series of recent successes by OPHK, including search and rescue missions, arrests of logistics suppliers, and the disruption of insurgent networks across Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
