About 100 young people and women in Borno State have received training in various skills, business start-up grants totalling N20 million, and tools to establish or grow their businesses.

The initiative was supported by the Government of Japan through the 'Accelerating recovery of affected communities from security and humanitarian crises in Northeast Nigeria' project.

The programme combines practical skills with financial and material support to help participants build viable businesses, generate income and create opportunities for others.

Beneficiaries were also exposed to innovation and world-class technology at the soon-to-be-launched UniPod at the University of Maiduguri, an experience that expanded their horizons on how technology can help improve products, solve problems and grow competitive enterprises.

According to the organisers, the goal is to nurture a new generation of entrepreneurs who can drive local economic growth, create jobs and contribute to the recovery of their communities.

The project appreciates the Government of Japan and the Embassy of Japan in Nigeria for its continued support towards economic recovery and creation of sustainable livelihoods in Northeast Nigeria.
