Electricity supply has been restored in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, after almost 72 hours of total blackout.

Residents confirmed that power was restored in parts of the metropolis on Friday afternoon, following days of outage.

The blackout was caused by a setback on the grid transmission network serving the state's electricity supply cluster, coupled with a technical fault at the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant which was undergoing repairs.

The Borno State Government, through the ministry of transport and energy, had earlier announced the disruption in a public notice signed by the commissioner, Hon. Mohammed Lawan Buba.

The ministry had said the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in collaboration with the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) was working tirelessly to resolve the situation and restore normal supply soonest.

As of Friday afternoon, several areas including Gwange, Mairi, Ngomari Custin among others have reported restoration of power, bringing relief to residents.
