The Borno State Police Command has released its 2024 crime statistics, showcasing a strategic approach to policing that prioritizes community engagement and collaboration.


Commissioner of Police, CP ML Yusufu presented the report at a press briefing held on Tuesday in Maiduguri, outlining the command's efforts to enhance professionalism and policing excellence.


Key strategies employed by the command The command has employed several key strategies to achieve its goals, including,


Inter-agency collaboration: Close cooperation with other security agencies to share intelligence and coordinate efforts.


Community engagement: Prioritizing community needs in policing efforts to build trust and foster partnerships.


Capacity building: Enhancing the knowledge, skills, and behavior of police personnel through sustained training programs.


Intelligence gathering: Working closely with informal policing outlets, including Civilian JTF, vigilantes, hunter groups, and other community-based organizations, for timely intelligence.


2024 crime statistics


The command reported a total of 721 cases involving various crimes, including armed robbery, sexual and gender-based violence, kidnapping, theft, and drug offenses. Key statistics include:


Homicide: 65 cases, 140 arrests, 41 charged to court, 24 awaiting legal advice.


Terrorism/logistics support: 6 incidents, 7 arrests, 6 under investigation.


Kidnapping: 14 cases, 34 arrests, 9 charged to court, 5 awaiting trial.


Gender-Based Violence: 109 incidents, 117 arrests, 81 charged to court, 28 under investigation.


Command's commitment to peace and security


In total, the command recorded 367 reported incidents of felonies, misdemeanors, and other offenses, with 721 suspects arrested, 257 charged to court, and 110 currently under investigation.


CP Yusufu reiterated the command's commitment to working with communities and other stakeholders to maintain peace and security in the state.
