Borno State Police Command has released its 2024 crime statistics, revealing 109 reported incidents of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Borno State.
Commissioner of Police ML Yusufu presented the figures at a press briefing held on Tuesday in Maiduguri, highlighting the command's efforts to address this critical issue.
Of the 109 reported GBV incidents, 117 suspects have been arrested, with 81 charged to court.
This demonstrates the command's commitment to pursuing legal action against perpetrators.
According to the CP, currently, 28 cases remain under active investigation.
He emphasized that addressing GBV is a key priority for the command.
He said that specialized training programs for officers have been conducted with international agencies and partners to enhance their knowledge, skills, and understanding of GBV issues.
'This ensures a more effective and sensitive response to victims,' the CP said.
The command encourages victims of GBV to report incidents, assuring them of a confidential and supportive process.
'The command is committed to working with communities and stakeholders to prevent GBV and support survivors,' he added.
