Borno State Government has approved the renaming of Borno State University (BOSU) to Kashim Ibrahim University.
This decision was made on Monday during the state executive council meeting, chaired by the state governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, at the Government House in Maiduguri.
The commissioner of information and internal security, Prof. Usman Tar while briefing journalist after the meeting said the renaming process is not yet complete, as it requires legislative work by the Borno state House of Assembly.
'The original bill law establishing the university as Borno State University needs to be amended to reflect the new name.
'Additionally, the ministry of education and the university's board must take necessary actions to inform regulatory authorities, such as the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) among others,' he added.
In another development, the council also addressed the need for street naming and house numbering in Maiduguri and other rural locations in Borno State.
According to Prof. Tar, this initiative is part of the ongoing urban renewal efforts in Maiduguri.
'The state's rapid development has led to the construction of new buildings, estates, and roads, which require renaming.
'Furthermore, existing roads, facilities, and infrastructure also need to be renamed to reflect the state's growth and progress,' he noted
