An attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Kaleri, near the University of Maiduguri, has claimed the life of a young boy.

The incident occurred at the early hours of Wednesday, when armed terrorists launched a fierce assault on the town, firing indiscriminately and causing widespread panic.

The attack, which commenced around 2:00 AM, saw the terrorists attempt to infiltrate the town, prompting a fierce gun battle with the Nigerian Army and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

Although the security forces successfully repelled the attack, the young boy's life was tragically cut short in the crossfire.

Residents described the intense gunfire and explosions that forced them to flee their homes.

'We fled our homes with our children because of the heavy gunshots; they also used bomb explosions,' said Aisha, a mother of four, who sought refuge in a neighbouring community.

The attack is the latest in a series of incidents in the area, highlighting the ongoing security concerns in the area. Just last month, terrorists attacked the same area, kidnapping two individuals and stealing foodstuff.

The CJTF who confirmed the incident, said that the security forces engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle, lasting several hours and forcing them to retreat into the surrounding bush.

Unfortunately, the young boy's life was lost in the process, he confirmed.
