Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has met with little Bashir Gaji, a boy who was allegedly molested by Bukar Modu, a man captured in a disturbing viral video.
The meeting took place at Government House, Maiduguri on Sunday.
The governor directed the immediate prosecution of Modu, who was subsequently arrested by security operatives on Saturday night in Maiduguri.
Gov. Zulum emphasized that his administration will not tolerate any form of abuse or exploitation of minors, directing swift action to bring the perpetrator to justice.
'This heinous act is an affront on our values and a betrayal of our duty to protect our children,' he said.
In a heartwarming gesture, Gov. Zulum announced that he would provide a fully furnished house for Bashir and his family, as well as a scholarship to cover his education.
Bashir's family currently resides in an IDP camp in Monguno after his father was killed by Boko Haram insurgents.
The governor also directed the ministry of women affairs and social development to devise modalities for increased community awareness programs to educate families and local traditional teachers and guardians on proper discipline enforcement for children.
This move aims to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure a safe environment for children to grow and thrive.
