Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have killed at least 14 people in an attack at Chibok Local Government Area, Borno State.
The attack occurred on Monday evening in Kwaple, a village located 5 kilometers from Chibok.
In a report by Yerwa Express News, several others are still missing after Boko Haram terrorists targeted villagers gathered for a funeral.
According to a sources who spoke to the paper, the terrorists entered the village around 6:00PM and opened fire on mourners, resulting in the deaths of 14 people.
The bodies were recovered on Tuesday morning, and an unconfirmed number of residents are still unaccounted for.
The attack also resulted in the destruction of an EYN church and several houses, which were burned down by the terrorists.
Hon. Modu Mustapha, Chairman of Chibok Local Government Area, confirmed the incident, stating that the terrorists attacked during a funeral, resulting in the loss of many lives.
This attack comes on the heels of a recent bomb explosion in a passenger vehicle, which killed 20 people.
Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has been meeting with top military officials, including defence minister, Abubakar Badaru and minister of state for defence, Bello Matawalle, to discuss strategies to stop terrorist attacks.
During the meeting, the governor called for military operations in areas such as the Timbuktu Triangle and Mandara Hills to prevent terrorists from regrouping.
