Hajiya Falmata Mustapha has been rewarded with a vehicle and a cash gift of N2 million by the Borno State Government in recognition of her 38 years of distinguished service to education in the state.

Governor Babagana Umara Zulum honoured the retired principal on Thursday, at the ministry of education's work hub in Maiduguri, for her commitment to education and the welfare of children.

The commissioner for education, science, technology and innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, who presented the gifts on behalf of Gov. Zulum, commended Hajiya Falmata for her years of service as a teacher and Principal of Yerwa Government Girls' Secondary School, Maiduguri, and her subsequent service at the Aliko Dangote Model Orphanage.

Particular recognition was given to her exceptional leadership during the September 10, 2024 flood disaster, when she ensured the continued provision of food to children at the orphanage despite disruptions to supply routes.

Representatives of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Association of Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) applauded the gesture, describing it as a morale booster for teachers and school administrators.

They also appealed to the government to sustain efforts in addressing teachers' welfare issues raised during the 32nd World Teachers' Day celebration on October 5, 2026.

In her response, Hajiya Falmata expressed gratitude to the governor and the commissioner for the recognition, and appreciated the state government's efforts to support teachers and improve their working conditions.
