The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has completed a rapid assessment in Damboa and Chibok Local Government Areas.

The assessment revealed that a total of 1,209 houses across four different communities have been affected by the disaster.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Dauda Iliya, special adviser to the governor on media said the assessment was conducted under the directive of Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, who had earlier instructed SEMA to immediately evaluate the damage and provide necessary intervention in areas impacted by both floods and windstorms.

The assessment identified the affected communities as Gumsuri, Garjang, and Wovi in Damboa, where 1,103 houses were severely impacted by the flash floods.

Additionally, in Chibok Local Government Area, 106 houses were affected in the villages of Mboa, Whuntaku, and Yarchida.

The governor had previously expressed his deep sympathy for the affected residents and the families who tragically lost loved ones in Chibok, Damboa, and Askira.

'I received with profound sorrow the sad news of the devastating flood disaster in Gumsuri, Wovi and Garjang in Damboa as well as the people of Mboa, Whuntaku and Yarchida villages of Chibok local government which claimed lives and displaced many families. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and all those affected by these disasters.'

During the on-the-spot assessment, Ali Abdullahi, acting director general of SEMA, reiterated that their visit was on the instruction of the governor and assured that relief items would be delivered to the victims of the disaster.

'As directed by his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, we have carried out on-the-spot assessment of all the areas affected by the flash flood in the two local governments,' Ali stated.
