The Borno State Judicial Service Commission has dismissed Alkali Zakariya Ali Gabchiya, a judge of the Yerwa Civil Sharia Court, over allegations of misconduct and abuse of office.

According to a release issued on Saturday by the Commission’s Acting Secretary, Saleh Khala Jidda, the decision was reached during a two-day meeting held on Friday and Saturday, July 18–19, 2025.

The meeting also addressed the promotion of 26 officers to various grades within the judiciary.

The dismissal follows the findings of the Judiciary Public Complaints Committee, which investigated a petition against the judge.

The committee’s report revealed that Alkali Gabchiya had received a portion of disputed farmland from parties involved in a case before him, thereby violating judicial ethics and abusing his office.

The Commission stated that the judge not only accepted the farmland but also engaged in various wrongful acts in an attempt to cover up his misconduct.

'In view of the seriousness of the offense, the Judicial Service Commission has dismissed him from the service of the Borno State Judiciary,' the statement read.
