President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the formation of an inter-ministerial committee to oversee the state funeral of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

The committee, chaired by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, is responsible for planning and coordinating a dignified state burial for the late elder statesman.

The committee comprises key government officials from various ministries, including the ministers of finance, budget and economic planning, defence, information and national orientation, works, interior, FCT, housing and urban development, and art, culture and creative economy.

The committee also includes security agencies such as the national security adviser, Inspector General of Police, director-general of the department of state services (DSS), and the chief of defence staff.

Presidential advisers, including special advisers to the president, are also part of the committee.

The office of the permanent secretary, general services office (GSO), will serve as the committee's secretariat, ensuring the smooth operation of the committee's activities.

In a show of respect, President Tinubu has directed all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to open condolence registers for the public to pay their respects to the late president.

A central condolence register will also be available at the ministry of foreign affairs and the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja.

The burial is expected to hold tomorrow, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Daura, Katsina State, with the late president's body arriving in Katsina by noon and the burial ceremony scheduled for 2:00 PM.
