Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has announced that 5,000 people, mostly vulnerable individuals in the northern part of the state, will receive free eye surgeries and medications.
The governor made this declaration on Wednesday while commissioning the School of Health Sciences and Eye and Dental Clinic in Monguno Local Government Area.
According to him, the initiative aims to restore sight and improve the wellbeing of thousands in need of urgent eye care.
This move is part of the state government's efforts to enhance healthcare delivery and address the healthcare needs of its citizens.
During the commissioning ceremony, the governor also revealed plans to construct staff residential quarters for the School of Health Sciences and upgrade Monguno's General Hospital into a Specialist Hospital.
He disclosed that rehabilitation work on the Monguno-Maiduguri road would commence soon.
The governor assured that all these projects would be completed before the end of his administration, demonstrating his commitment to improving the lives of Borno State residents.
The establishment of the School of Health Sciences in both Northern and Southern senatorial zones is expected to bridge the gap in skilled healthcare professionals and create wider opportunities for health and allied education.
The governor encouraged residents to take advantage of the institution to improve their capacity and contribute to the healthcare sector.
