The Borno State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (BOSCHMA) has held its inaugural board meeting to drive the rollout of the Formal Sector Health Insurance Scheme.

The meeting took place on Wednesday at the BOSCHMA head office in Maiduguri.

Chairperson Hajiya Mairo Bunu Lawan congratulated members on their appointments and urged them to work together for the program’s success.

'We must show collective commitment to ensure the successful rollout of this scheme,' she said.

She also praised Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for approving the initiative and highlighted the government’s role in funding it.

'I commend His Excellency for his approval of the scheme and the government’s 6.5 percent contribution in addition to the 3.5 percent employee contribution,' she added.

Executive Secretary Dr. Saleh Abba Kaza presented the 90-day implementation framework, which sets the waiting period before civil servants can begin accessing services at designated healthcare facilities.

'This program will strengthen healthcare financing and expand access to quality services for workers and their families,' Kaza said.

With the formal sector program now underway, Borno State joins other states in Nigeria already implementing health insurance for their workforce.

The inaugural board meeting marks a major milestone in BOSCHMA’s commitment to advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the state.
