Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the appointment of two female provosts to lead the newly established Colleges of Nursing in Monguno and Gwoza Local Government Areas.

The appointments are part of a broader set of approvals for principal officers for the new institutions.

Bukar Tijani, secretary to the state government, announced the appointments in a statement on Monday, confirming that Zainab Ali Grema has been appointed Provost of the College of Nursing, Monguno while Aji Bukar will serve as Provost of the College of Nursing, Gwoza.

According to the statement, Umar M. Mustapha and Linda Charles Usman as Registrars for the Monguno and Gwoza colleges, respectively.

All appointments are effective from September 8, 2025.

Zainab Ali Grema, who hails from Dikwa Local Government Area, brings a decade of experience from the College of Nursing, Maiduguri, where she served as a senior lecturer, dean of student affairs, and exams officer.

She holds a Bachelor of Nursing (BNSC) and a Master's in Reproductive Health.

Aji Bukar, a native of Gwoza Local Government, holds two Bachelor's degrees in Health Education and Nursing.

He has a long history of teaching nursing and midwifery in both Nigeria and Gambia and currently serves as the Deputy Provost at the College of Nursing, Maiduguri. The governor congratulated the newly appointed officials and urged them to use their extensive experience to improve health education in Borno State.
