The Borno State Police Command has launched an investigation into the sudden and unnatural death of three children in Mafa Local Government Area.

According to a statement released on Friday, the incident occurred after three children were reported missing on September 23, 2025, by their parents, Baba Zannah Jaridama and his neighbor, Muhammad Bukar, both residents of Zannari Ali Ngoshe Area in Mafa.

The missing children were identified as 3-year-old Anwar Baba Zannah, 1-year and 5-month-old Mama Baba Zannah, and 5-year-old Ahmed Muhammad.

Despite immediate police efforts and information circulation, the children’s whereabouts remained unknown until the following morning.

On September 24, at about 10:30 a.m., the complainant reported to Kaleri Police Outpost that the bodies of the children were discovered inside his parked Honda Civic vehicle.

Police officers quickly arrived at the scene and moved the bodies to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where medical personnel confirmed them dead.

The remains have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has directed a discreet investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.

He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and assured the public that the outcome of the investigation will be made known once concluded.

The Command urged residents to remain calm and continue cooperating with law enforcement by providing credible and timely information to aid the ongoing investigation.
