The Borno State Government has released N365,165,119 to various community groups, clubs, and associations in Borno State.
The disbursement is part of the government's empowerment programme aimed at supporting youth, elders, and local associations across the state.
The release, made under the directive of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, is expected to reach beneficiaries within 24 hours.
In an interview with newsmen on Tuesday, commissioner for youth and sports development and poverty alleviation, Hon. Saina Buba, explained that the initiative is part of the government's quarterly empowerment plan.
'When we started, elders were given N30,000 and youth N20,000. Two years later, the amount was increased to N100,000 for elders and N50,000 for youth.'
He said each chairman of an elder group now receives N200,000, while youth group leaders get N100,000.
According to him, the programme also includes seasonal distributions of food items such as rice and sugar during festive periods like Ramadan and Eid-el-Kabir.
All beneficiary groups are required to open or have a bank account for fund transfers.
The commissioner added that Gov. Zulum has disbursed more than N6 billion to various groups across the state over the past six years.
Some youth leaders who benefited from the programme expressed their appreciation to the governor, saying the funds will help them start small businesses and support their families.
All beneficiaries are urged to use the money responsibly, as this initiative is meant to help build a better life and contribute to the growth of their community.
