Borno State commissioner for women affairs, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo, has received a national award from the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria.
She also serves as a board member of Lake Chad Times Newspaper.
The award was presented during the association’s 60th anniversary celebration held on Thursday, at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
For decades, women in northern Nigeria have faced limited opportunities to participate in sports due to cultural and social barriers.
Zuwaira Gambo’s recognition highlights how inclusive leadership can help bridge that gap.
She was the only female awardee from the Northeast, honored for her efforts in youth engagement, support for displaced persons, and advocacy for women’s participation in sports.
SWAN described her as an exemplary leader who has demonstrated commitment and innovation under the leadership of Governor Babagana Umara Zulum.
The association said her programs have helped promote inclusion, resilience, and hope in communities recovering from conflict.
In her remarks, Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo thanked Governor Zulum for his support in advancing youth and sports development in Borno State.
She said despite challenges, the governor continues to see sports as a tool for peace and unity among communities.
Lake Chad Times Newspaper congratulates Hajiya Zuwaira Gambo on this national recognition.
