For many women in Borno State, access to housing, steady income, and education remains limited after years of conflict.

On Monday, Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, introduced a set of projects aimed at addressing some of these gaps.

A newly completed nursing quarters, built by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum’s administration, is expected to support female health workers who make up a large part of the workforce.

The facility, located near the State Specialist Hospital in Maiduguri, provides accommodation to reduce housing pressure and support workers with demanding schedules.

In the education sector, two mega primary schools in Aliyakeri and Abbaganaram were also commissioned, increasing access to classrooms for many children, especially girls.

Each school includes classrooms, ICT centers, and solar power to support learning.

The most direct support came through a N200 million program for 2,000 vulnerable women across the state.

Each beneficiary will receive N100,000 and a sewing machine to support small businesses.

The program covers all 27 local government areas, with more beneficiaries in Maiduguri and nearby communities.

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Tinubu said supporting women is key to strengthening families and communities.

She also commended the state government’s approach to combining infrastructure with direct support.

The projects are part of wider efforts by the Zulum administration to rebuild public services.

Other highlights included rewards for education workers and support for a long-serving ministry staff member.
