The Borno State Police Command has arrested 20 suspects during a coordinated raid on several criminal hideouts across Maiduguri.

The operation carried out on Saturday, led by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) and Anti-Social Vices Unit, was on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Abdulmajid.

In a statement issued by the command's spokesman, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the raid focused on communities that residents often describe as hotspots, including Kasuwan Fara, Baga Road, Bolori Kofa Biyu, Shehuri North, State Low-Cost, Bulabulin, Pompomari Bypass, and Albaganaram.

He said during the operation, officers recovered several dangerous items linked to criminal activities. These include:

3 knives, 128 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 4 cups of dried leaves suspected to be Laud, 1 ice bunker, and 12 wraps of cough syrup.

According to him, the suspects were arrested for offences such as possession of dangerous weapons, use of illicit drugs, public nuisance, and vagrancy.

ASP Daso said all the suspects and the exhibits are currently in police custody.

‘All suspects and exhibits are currently in custody undergoing preliminary investigation before prosecution,' he said.

He added that the commissioner of police remains committed to removing criminal elements from the state and ensuring that residents live in a peaceful and safe environment.

The police urged the public to continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
