The Borno State Government has unveiled housing and road projects aimed at improving living conditions for internally displaced persons and low-income residents in 2026.
The plan focuses on rebuilding infrastructure in communities affected by conflict, flooding, and prolonged neglect.
Under the Works and Housing ministry, new housing estates and residential units will be constructed in selected local government areas to support resettlement efforts.
The housing projects are expected to reduce overcrowding and provide dignified shelter for vulnerable families.
Government will rehabilitate and construct road networks in urban and peri-urban communities where displaced households have resettled.
The intervention aims to improve access to markets, schools, healthcare facilities, and humanitarian services.
Drainage construction and road rehabilitation will also address flood risks that disproportionately affect low-income neighborhoods.
Additional housing units, including semi-detached bungalows and flats, will be built to accommodate civil servants and essential workers in resettled areas.
Major road projects, including bypasses and dual carriageways, are designed to stimulate local economies and create jobs for vulnerable youth.
The Works and Housing ministry will deploy these projects as part of a broader recovery strategy to restore dignity, mobility, and economic opportunity in 2026.
