No fewer than 1,605 vulnerable Christians living at the Wulari internally displaced persons camp in Maiduguri are set to benefit from an end-of-year support package approved by Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum.
The distribution exercise took place on Monday at the Wulari IDPs camp in Maiduguri Metropolitan Council.
Gov. Zulum said each of the 1,605 beneficiaries will receive a 25kg bag of rice, clothing materials, and a gallon of cooking oil, alongside five bulls provided for Christmas celebrations.
He said the intervention was aimed at supporting vulnerable groups and promoting unity, peace, and religious harmony in the state.
The governor also announced that thousands of additional 25kg bags of rice, spaghetti, cooking oil, and 15 bulls will be distributed to vulnerable Christians within host communities.
He said Borno State has continued to record peaceful coexistence between Muslims and Christians, noting that both religions preach peace and tolerance.
He assured the Christian community that all churches destroyed by insurgency, including those still under reconstruction, will be fully rebuilt by the state government.
The governor emphasized the need for proper coordination with religious leaders to ensure effective engagement and sustainable development across the state.
In his remarks, John Bekni, the chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Borno State, thanked Zulum for his continued support to Christian communities.
Bekni described the governor’s presence at the camp as historic and said the intervention has brought hope and relief to Christians during the Christmas season.
He prayed for sustained peace and progress in Borno State.
