The newly appointed Shehu of Dikwa, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Ibrahim Ibn Umar El-Kanemi, has received the staff of office from Borno State Governor, Prof.Babagana Umara Zulum.

The ceremony, which took place on Sunday at the palace in Dikwa town, was attended by dignitaries from across Nigeria, Cameroon, and Chad.

During the ceremony, Gov. Zulum commended the peaceful and harmonious process of selecting the new Shehu, highlighting the respect for tradition and the rule of law that defines the Dikwa emirate.

'The selection of Alhaji Ibrahim Ibn Umar El-Kanemi, JP, CON, as the new Shehu of Dikwa, following the demise of Alhaji Abba Tor Shehu Masta II, was marked by a peaceful and harmonious process and this transition reflects the respect for tradition and the rule of law that defines the Dikwa emirate,' he said.

The Shehu of Dikwa, in his remarks, pledged to promote peace and development in the emirate, working closely with the government and other stakeholders.

He thanked the governor for his support and guidance, and promised to justify the confidence reposed in him.

Gov. Zulum also charged the Shehu to provide leadership and direction in modern times, emphasizing the need for collective responsibility in recovering from years of insecurity.

'Your Highness has ascended the throne in an era markedly different from that of your illustrious predecessors. These are more modern times that require your best efforts in providing leadership and direction. Ours is a State that has been bedevilled by years of insecurity, and the process of recovery is a collective responsibility for all, and so, you have a greater responsibility of changing the people towards the entrenchment of peace and development of the emirate,' he said.

Prior to the ceremony, the governor commissioned two key projects in Dikwa: an ICT centre and a Government lodge.

These projects aim to enhance the emirate's infrastructure and promote development.
