The Federal Government has praised Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, for what it described as a transformational investment in education infrastructure.

The commendation was delivered on Wednesday by the minister of education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, during the commissioning of two newly constructed mega schools in Maiduguri.

The minister unveiled the Kulogumna Mega Primary School and Government Day Secondary School, Kaleri, both equipped with laboratories, libraries and sports facilities.

He led the symbolic tape-cutting and described Gov. Zulum as 'a pacesetter' in education development.

Dr Alausa said that he had visited many schools across the country, including some universities and polytechnics, but was 'humbled' by the quality of infrastructure he saw in Borno.

'I was blown away,' he said.

'I have been to many places and approved schools for states that do not have the quality infrastructure of a primary school in Borno.'

Earlier, Dr Alausa visited Gov. Zulum at the Government House Maiduguri where he commended the state's education reforms.

The minister also commissioned a Federal Government school in Ngarannam built through the Islamic Development Bank and executed by UBEC.

Gov. Zulum reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the education sector, noting that teachers' welfare remains a priority.

'We have to ensure accommodation is being provided to the teachers, and very soon plans will be rolled out to motivate them,' he said.

The governor added that the state government will increase teachers' salaries and expand technical and vocational education.

He noted that Borno has implemented the minimum wage for primary and secondary school teachers.

The commissioning marks another step in the state's drive to rebuild and expand learning access for children affected by conflict.
