The minister of defence, Gen. Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), has directed troops to eliminate Boko Haram terrorists on sight without waiting for orders, as part of efforts to curb the resurgence of attacks in Borno State.
Gen. Musa gave the directive while addressing frontline troops of the Joint Taskforce (North East) Operation Hadin Kai at Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Borno State.
He was accompanied by the state minister of defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, and other top military officials, on a condolence visit to the state government and people over recent attacks.
'A total order has been given to take down the enemy when encountered,' Gen. Musa said.
He assured the troops of the Federal Government's commitment to their welfare.
He disclosed that President Bola Tinubu had approved salary increments for troops and procurement of operational equipment, including drones, to boost their morale in ending the decade-long insurgency.
The minister urged troops to remain committed to ending Boko Haram's reign, intensifying operations to secure communities across the region.
'Maintain operational momentum against terrorist groups threatening civilian populations,' he said, praising their sacrifices.
The government, he stressed, would not relent until total peace is achieved in the North-East.
