Prof. Usman A. Tar has formally taken over as commissioner of information and internal security in Borno State, returning to a ministry he previously led for nearly three years.
The handover ceremony was held on Tuesday evening at the Musa Usman Secretariat in Maiduguri.
Prof. Tar was among 10 commissioner-nominees submitted last week by Governor Babagana Umara Zulum to the Borno State House of Assembly. The nominees were screened and subsequently sworn in by the Deputy Governor.
Addressing staff of the ministry during the ceremony, Prof. Tar called for collective support to advance the administration’s agenda.
'I beseech all staff of the ministry to support myself, the ministry, and the Governor to push the agenda of His Excellency,' he said.
He noted that the administration has now entered a consolidation phase.
'The governor has reached the level of consolidation now. What is left is to consolidate on all the massive developmental projects he has embarked on,' Prof. Tar said.
The commissioner urged ministry staff to work together and maintain open communication.
'I urge us to put ourselves together to support the administration of Gov. Babagana Umara Zulum. Let us work together and In Shaa Allah you will not find me wanting,' he said.
He also encouraged staff to reach out to him directly with any issues.
On media relations, Prof. Tar said the state government maintains a cordial relationship with all media organizations in Borno and intends to deepen that partnership.
'We shall continue along that trajectory. We will continue to partner with the media across the board in order to package and deliver constructive news to our people,' he said.
He commended media outlets in the state for using their platforms for the progress and betterment of Borno.
Prof. Tar thanked Gov. Zulum for reappointing him to the role and pledged to serve the state with dedication and commitment.
