The Borno State Judiciary has directed nine Sharia Courts within Maiduguri Metropolis to vacate their current premises and relocate to temporary locations to enable the demolition and reconstruction of new ultra-modern court complexes.

In a public notice signed by the Chief Registrar, L. N. Bukar, the High Court of Justice said the exercise is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade judicial infrastructure across the state.

According to the notice with Ref: HCD/S.55/SB/VOL. I, all affected courts must complete evacuation and relocation before Monday, 6th July, 2026.

Court sittings and all judicial activities at the new locations will commence on the same date.

Most of the affected courts currently operating near Shehu’s Palace, Old Maiduguri, and at the former Human Rights Commission Office in Gwange, will move to newly constructed facilities.

Four courts — Upper Sharia Court No. 2, Yerwa Civil Court No. 1, UJE Sharia Court No. 1, and UJE Sharia Court No. 2 — will relocate to the newly constructed Old Maiduguri Sharia Court.

Bulumkutu Sharia Court is to move to the newly constructed Upper Sharia Court No. 3 at Post Office Area, while Lamisula Sharia Court will relocate to Upper Sharia Court No. 1, also at Post Office Area.

Three courts currently at the former Human Rights Commission Office, Opposite Mara Zain Motel along Bama Road, Gwange — Gwange 1, Gwange 2, and Gomboru Sharia Courts — will move to premises near Shehu’s Palace, Maiduguri.

The chief registrar urged judicial officers, court staff, legal practitioners, litigants, and members of the public to take note of the new locations and cooperate to ensure a smooth transition.

He said strict compliance with the directive is required.
