A Borno State resident, Garba Maidawa traditional medicine, has faulted the silence of Northern elders and political leaders over the worsening insecurity and human rights violations across the region.
In a video circulating on social media and obtained by our correspondent, Maidawa lamented that traditional rulers, elder statesmen, and other influential figures in Northern Nigeria have failed to speak out against the crises ravaging their communities.
'It has been a long time since I posted something like this, but our elders in the Northern region are not speaking about the crises going on in the region,' he said in Hausa.
Maidawa pointed to the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno as proof of what happens when early warning signs are ignored.
According to him, injustice, killings, and government failure to act swiftly have fueled the region’s instability.
'Injustice and government negligence in taking prompt action are the genesis of these crises, and if care is not taken, the crises will consume all of us,' he warned.
The concerned citizen noted that the security situation has deteriorated to the point where even government efforts are being overwhelmed.
He added that businesses and daily livelihoods across Northern Nigeria are now under threat.
'My wish is to focus on my business, but things are getting out of hand and have forced me to make this video,' Maidawa said.
He called on Northern leaders and elders to break their silence and take decisive steps to address the challenges before the situation degenerates further.
'I made this video out of concern for Nigeria and because I want to see stability return to our region,' he added.
