Vice President of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, has commissioned two mega schools in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
The schools — Yerwa Central Primary and Junior Secondary School and the Kashim Shettima Academy, a mega school named after the Vice President — are both located at Lamisula Ward in Maiduguri metropolis.
The commissioning was performed alongside Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate in the state, Engr. Mustapha Gubio, and other dignitaries.
The two schools are expected to significantly expand access to quality basic education in the metropolis, providing safe and conducive learning environments for hundreds of children.
The projects will support the state government's drive to reduce the number of out-of-school children, which currently stands at about 800,000, and strengthen the ongoing recovery of the education sector after over a decade of insurgency.
The Vice President is also expected to commission the multi-billion naira Kashim Ibrahim University Teaching Hospital during his visit to the state.
