Following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's approval of N80 billion for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Alau Dam, the Federal Ministry of Water Resources has met with the Borno State Government to discuss modalities for commencing the project.
The meeting which held on Wednesday was led by the minister of water resources and sanitation, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev
It is aimed to establish a template and recommendations to guide the contractor on the project's execution.
During the meeting, Prof. Utsev emphasized the importance of synergy between the Federal and Borno State Governments in achieving the project's success.
He said the Alau Dam project is expected to be completed within 24 months, with the first component commencing this month and ending in July.
He added that the second phase will start in October.
The minister assured the Borno State Government of the Federal Government's full participation in the project's execution to ensure timely completion.
Upon completion, the dam is expected to boost irrigation farming in Borno State, improve hydropower generation in the North East, and provide numerous benefits to the local community.
Prof. Utsev appealed to the Borno State Government to ensure adequate security provision at the project site to enable smooth execution.
The Borno State Government delegation, led by commissioner for water resources, Engr. Tijjani Goni, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and Prof. Utsev for their efforts in rehabilitating the dam.
The delegation assured the minister of the state government's commitment to providing adequate security and cooperating with the contractor to ensure timely completion.
