Hundreds of residents who fled their homes due to the devastating flood that hit Maiduguri and Jere Local Government Areas of Borno State are returning to their communities as the floodwaters recede.
The residents, mostly women, children, and elderly individuals, were seen returning to their homes on Wednesday morning after seeking safety in other parts of the city.
Many of those who sought refuge in areas like Old GRA and Polo were among those returning, as the situation has eased in some parts of the city.
Although some displaced individuals remain in the two emergency camps established by the Borno State government, the return of residents to their homes marks a tentative step towards recovery.
The flood, which began on Tuesday, has left a trail of destruction, with thousands displaced, homes destroyed, and livelihoods lost.
As the situation slowly returns to normal in some areas of the city, residents are beginning to assess the full extent of the damage and needs of the affected communities.
The Borno State government has established emergency camps to provide support to those affected, and relief efforts are ongoing.
