President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep concern over the devastating flood that has hit parts of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

This was confirmed Ina statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, on Tuesday.

The flood, described as the worst in recent decades, has displaced thousands of residents and affected critical facilities such as the Post Office and the Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.

In the statement, President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Borno State, particularly to families who have lost their means of livelihood due to the disaster.

The flood was triggered by the overflow of the Alau Dam.

While relevant authorities are still assessing the damage, President Tinubu has called for the immediate evacuation of people from affected areas.

He has assured Governor Babagana Umara Zulum that the Federal Government is ready to collaborate to address the immediate humanitarian needs of the affected people.

The President has also ordered the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to assist the flood victims.

'He remains committed to mobilizing federal resources to support the state during this difficult time,' the statement said.

As at the time of filing this report, the level of damages and casualties cannot be ascertained.
