At least four soldiers have been killed as Boko Haram terrorists attacked the 27 Task Force Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

In a report by Daily Trust Newspaper, the attack also led to the destruction of several operational equipments.

Lake Chad Times Newspaper had earlier reported the attack, which occurred around 2 am on Saturday.

A security source who survived the attack recounted to Daily Trust that the insurgents launched a surprise assault on their location with heavy explosions and gunfire.

'We were taken off guard by the heavy explosion and gunfire, but we stood our ground. A lot of our fighting equipment were destroyed during the encounter,' the source said.

The source further confirmed the casualties, stating, 'Yes, we lost four of our men, just as they also recorded casualties during the fierce battle that lasted for hours.'

The Nigerian Army headquarters acknowledged the attack in a brief statement on its verified Facebook page on Saturday morning, stating, 'Troops of Operation HADIN KAI currently in a fierce battle against ISWAP attack at Buni Gari, Yobe State. Details later.'

However, further details regarding casualties and the extent of damage are yet to be released by the military at the time of this report.

A local source who fled to the local Council's headquarters told Daily Trust that 'many residents abandoned their homes to areas they consider safe.' The source also noted that 'the military had shut down vehicular movement on the busy road, which serves as a link between Yobe and Biu and other towns in southern Borno.'

Similarly, Borno State have endured relentless assaults over the past months, with insurgents frequently targeting villages and military formations.

Areas such as Sabon Gari, Wajiroko, and Wulgo have been particularly affected, with reports of troops being dislodged and arms and ammunition stolen.

The escalating insecurity has prompted Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, to call on the federal government to take decisive action to address the worsening situation.
