The University of Maiduguri has officially appointed Prof. Mohammed Laminu Mele as the new Vice-Chancellor.
This came during a special meeting of the University Governing Council held on Wednesday.
The announcement was made known through a press release issued by the Registrar of the University, Ahmad A Lawan.
The decision follows the recommendations from the joint council and senate selection board, which reviewed four candidates for the position.
Prof. Mele, a distinguished scholar in English Language and Linguistics, brings over two decades of experience in teaching, research, and community service to the role.
Prior to his appointment, he served as the acting Vice-Chancellor and held various key positions, including Head of department of English and Literary studies, sub dean of the faculty of arts and deputy vice-chancellor for central administration, Unimaid.
Renowned for his scholarly contributions, Prof. Mele has received numerous awards both nationally and internationally.
He hails from Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State and is known for his commitment to mentoring young professionals, and involvement in community service.
