Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum has been selected as a keynote speaker at the upcoming Africa Security Watch Awards and Conference in Doha, Qatar.
Scheduled for December, the 18th edition of the prestigious event will also feature Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, as lead speakers.
The conference, organized by the Africa Security Watch Initiative, will focus on the theme 'Developing module for people-centric governance towards enhancement of peace and security.'
According to the organizers, the theme is aimed at addressing Africa's ongoing security challenges and promoting actionable discussions for a more peaceful and secure continent.
Patrick Agbambu, the International Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Security Watch, emphasized the importance of people-centered governance in achieving peace and stability.
'The foremost responsibility of any government or leadership is to ensure the safety, security and well-being of its citizens. It is through responsive and people-centered governance that societies can thrive, where policies are crafted with the people in mind, ensuring peace, stability, and security for all.
'Sadly, our beloved continent of Africa continues to face significant challenges in this regard. Today, over 70% of Africa remains affected by various levels of insecurity. As a result, development stagnates, fear prevails, and too many of our citizens remain trapped in poverty.
'It is within this context that we at the Security Watch Africa Initiative (SWAI) have chosen the theme for the 18th Africa Security Watch Awards & Conference: “Developing Modules for People-Centric Governance towards the Enhancement of Peace and Security in Africa' he said.
Gov. Zulum will deliver the keynote address, while Gen. Musa will present on the Nexus between citizens’ socio-economic development and national defence.
Both speakers are expected to provide insights into addressing insecurity through governance and defense strategies.
'These esteemed individuals will address critical topics that are pivotal to shaping a secure future for Africa,' he added.
The event will also recognize outstanding military and security operatives across Nigeria, honoring their contributions to peacekeeping efforts.
The Africa Security Watch Awards and Conference has been lauded as a platform for fostering dialogue among African leaders, policymakers, and security experts on finding sustainable solutions to the continent's security challenges.
