Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Dauda Iliya as his official spokesperson and special adviser on media.
The announcement, made on Friday by the senior special assistant on New Media, Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, follows the demise of Mallam Isa Gusau, the previous spokesperson, who passed away in February 2024.
Dauda Iliya, a seasoned journalist, currently serves as the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Borno State.
Hailing from Kwaya-Kusar Local Government Area in southern Borno, he brings years of experience in the media and communication sector.
He holds a bachelor's degree in English Linguistics and a master's degree in Mass Communication, both from the University of Maiduguri.
His qualifications are complemented by various professional courses and training he has undertaken throughout his career.
In addition to his leadership role at the NUJ, Iliya is also an active member of several professional bodies, including the Society of Nigerian Broadcasters.
This appointment is seen as a strategic move by Governor Zulum, ensuring that his administration continues to maintain effective communication and media relations as the state navigates its post-insurgency recovery efforts.
Dauda Iliya’s predecessor, Mallam Isa Gusau, played a crucial role in conveying the policies and programs of the Zulum administration to the public.
His untimely death earlier this year left a notable void in the government’s media communications team.
Dauda Iliya’s appointment is expected to restore continuity in media relations for the state government.
The Borno State government, under Governor Zulum, has been committed to rebuilding the state after years of insurgency, with effective communication serving as a key part of the administration's strategy to connect with the public and stakeholders.
