In a significant development, the Borno State Police Command has successfully re-arrested Auwalu Aminu, also known as Auwalu Kirkir, a 24-year-old convict who escaped from the Medium Security Custodian Center in Maiduguri during the devastating flood incident in September 2024.

This breakthrough comes on the heels of last week's re-arrest of another convict who fled prison during the same flood.

In a statement issued by ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the command's spokesman, Auwalu Aminu was serving a jail term for criminal conspiracy and theft when the flood collapsed the facility's fence, allowing him to escape.

According to Daso, on October 16, 2024, police surveillance at Bama Area Command/Banki Divisional headquarters received a credible tip-off that Auwalu Kirkir was spotted in Banki town.

'Swift action by the police patrol resulted in the apprehension of the convict,' he said.

Daso added that the commissioner of police, CP Mohammed Lawal Yusufu has reaffirmed the command's commitment to ensuring public safety and urged citizens to report any suspicious activities or information regarding fugitives to the nearest police station or through designated channels: 0806 807 5581, 0802 347 3293.
