Following the devastating floods in Maiduguri, Jere, and Mafa Local Government Areas of Borno State, the Police Officers' Wives Association (POWA) provided relief materials to affected police wives.
POWA President, Dr. Elizabeth Egbetokun, wife of the Inspector General of Police, visited Maiduguri on Thursday to sympathize with flood victims, the people, and the government of Borno State.
At the Borno State Police Command Headquarters, Dr. Egbetokun distributed relief materials, including food and non-food items, to affected police families.
'I'm here to sympathize with flood victims, people, and the government of Borno State during this difficult time,' she said.
The distributed items included: 200 bags of rice, 150 mattresse, medications, toiletries, wrappers among others.
Dr. Egbetokun urged the beneficiaries to use the items judiciously.
Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Yusufu M Lawal, thanked Dr. Egbetokun for the visit and support.
'Police families living outside the police barracks were affected by the flood waters,' he said, listing Mashamari, Wulari, and parts of Metro Police Barracks as affected areas.
While responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Orpha Jacob, a beneficiary from Wulari Police Barracks, expressed gratitude to POWA for supporting them.
'We are really happy as we received food and non-food items that our families needed most during this trying time,' she said.
